There’s no denying the simple comfort of a warm grilled cheese sandwich. They’ve been popular since World War II, much like the equally-beloved peanut butter and jelly sandwich, when Navy cooks toasted up countless “American cheese filling sandwiches” for hungry sailors. Many iterations of the recipe have appeared since then, combining several different types of bread, artisanal cheeses, and zesty fillings.
We’re putting a colorful twist on the ooey-gooey classic this National Grilled Cheese Day (every April 12) with this recipe from Popsugar. You’ll never look at Kraft Singles and white bread the same way again after trying its sweet and creamy Funfetti®-ricotta filling between two buttery slices of brioche.
You will need:
1 oz. ricotta
1 oz. dry Funfetti® cake mix
2 slices brioche bread
1/2 Tbsp rainbow sprinkles
1 Tbsp salted butter
Method:
1. Heat grill to medium-low heat and butter one side of each slice of brioche
2. Mix together ricotta and Funfetti® cake mix until smooth
3. Spread ricotta mixture onto the unbuttered side of one slice of brioche. Top with sprinkles and the other slice of brioche with the unbuttered side down
4. Grill for 1-2 minutes until the brioche is crispy and the cheese is just starting to melt. Serve immediately.
