If you’re stationed abroad, or looking to hone in on a portable career, no matter where in the world you and your family are living, there’s no shortage of people around the world looking to learn English.

First you’ll need to get your TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification. There’s no state to state….or even country to country requirements, so you’re free to roam and move around as needed without affecting your certification. These programs are also ideal because they teach you how to prepare lesson plans and approaches to teach different age groups.

As far as tools you’ll need to master your craft: Skype or Google Hangouts, an internet connection and a way to market your skills are all you’ll need to get started.

Diane uses a screen sharing software (join.me is a great one for teachers) so that she can share a visual aid with students.

You can even pre-record lessons, and send them to students in advance to study before your face-to-face where you can practice grammar and speaking with one another.
