Have you ever wondered why we decorate eggs for Easter in the first place? Easter is a religious holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as told in the Bible. So with no mention of eggs anywhere in the Gospel, it does beg the question as to why Easter eggs are a staple of the springtime holiday. Considering that Easter’s unofficial mascot is a bunny, the whole egg thing doesn’t quite add up. I mean, have you ever seen a bunny lay an egg? I didn’t think so.

It could be due to their symbolic nature: cultures throughout history have seen eggs as a sign of new life. Another more Christian-centered theory is that eggs were formerly a forbidden food for Christians during the Lenten season. Decorating the eggs marked a celebratory end to fasting. From the White House Easter Egg Roll to frantic egg hunts to egg-shaped versions of all your favorite candies, the egg has become a quintessential part of the holiday whether it makes sense or not. And, whatever the reason may be, we’re glad Easter eggs are a thing.

Decorating eggs together as a family is a tradition that adds a little fun, a lot of color, and a lifetime of memories to the Easter season for kids, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins… everybody! This year, though, it’s time to kick the creativity up a notch. No more monochrome eggs! Add some style to those shells! Easier said than done, right? Well not anymore. This year, SpouseLink wants to make sure your Easter baskets are looking funkier and fresher than ever. Check out these unique egg-dying tricks and we promise your Easter eggs will be Instagram stars this year.
