The book is written by the mother of four military officers, one each in the military: Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if your children elected to be servicemembers? Brye writes about her experiences with three sons and a daughter who are servicemembers, as well as being a military spouse, veteran and daughter! Her coping mechanisms with the deployments of her children are insightful and personal. The reader can certainly empathize with the emotions she conveys. You will find the book comforting and resourceful as she explains the sisterhood, and what it’s like being a “warrior Mom” and part of the biggest family in the world.
Reading Be Safe, Love Mom will help you evaluate your “backpack” and the burdens you may be carrying inside and introduce you to the concept of “Semper Gumby”.
The work I do at AAFMAA exposes me to our veterans and their family members in a personal way. This book was inspiring and helped enlighten me about the challenges faced by Military Families learning to cope with a loved one in harm’s way.
I hope that reading it will nourish your soul.
We think this book would make a great choice for Library Shelfie Day this Wednesday, January 24 (the fourth Wednesday of every January). What do you think? #LibraryShelfieDay
