It’s hard to believe, but 2018 is coming to an end. Already. It has been a crazy year, that’s for sure. Who knows what 2019 has in store…
As we all start looking back on the year that was, and ahead to the year that will be, there’s one thing that’s bound to pop up: Resolutions. With all the holiday parties and get-togethers, someone’s bound to ask you about it, so it’s best to have an answer, whether you plan to stick to it or not. According to a YouGov study, the top resolutions from 2018 shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise: Eat healthier, Get More exercise, and Save money. And, who doesn’t want to end the year richer, fitter and healthier than they were 12 months before?!
Have you started thinking about your 2019 resolution, yet? If you’re anything like the people surveyed by YouGov, chances are you’re also thinking about a health-related resolution. Luckily, there are a bunch of military discounts available for servicemembers, veterans, and milspouses for you and your milfam to take advantage of as you hit your fitness goals.
1. YMCA
One thing the Village People never told you about the YMCA is that they offer great military discounts. Through their partnership with the Department of Defense (DoD), the YMCA offers discounted memberships to servicemembers and military families who live near approved duty locations. In some instances, the DoD will pay up to $50 towards membership fees. The YMCA’s “Military Outreach” program also provides memberships and respite child care to qualified members. Visit their website for more details.
2. Gold’s Gym
Gold’s Gym has come a long way since being the “Mecca of bodybuilding” back in 1965 on Venice Beach, California. Now one of the largest international fitness chains, Gold’s Gyms are synonymous with bodybuilding and weightlifting. And they also offer a great discount for Veterans and active duty servicemembers. Although offers vary slightly by location, most offer 20% off your monthly dues. Use their gym locator to find one near you.
3. 24 Hour Fitness
As the name suggests, 24 Hour Fitness is open 24/7. And with more than 400 locations across the United States, 24 Hour Fitness is the largest privately owned and operated fitness chain. So the good news is that a location shouldn’t be hard to find. The even better news is that they offer 10% off memberships for reservists, active duty servicemembers, and milspouses.
4. Planet Fitness
Claiming over 1,600 clubs across the county, Planet Fitness is one of the nation’s largest fitness club franchises and home to the “No Judgment Zone”. Planet Fitness offers very reasonable membership fees (as low as $10/month) so not all locations have military discounts. They do, however, allow members to cancel or freeze their accounts at no additional cost in case of a deployment.
5. Again Faster
Sometimes, the hardest part about getting to the gym is, well, getting to the gym. Showing up is half the battle, and it’s a lot easier to show up if all your workout equipment is already at home. With Again Faster, you can build the perfect, fully-customized home gym. And you can build it on the cheap with their 7% military discount.
6. Heart Rate Watch Company
Exercising is great but you’re not getting the most out of it if you don’t know how your body’s feeling. Luckily, active and retired servicemembers receive 10% of all heart rate monitors from the Heart Rate Watch Company. Now, you’ll know for sure if you’re working hard or just hardly working. A free fitness book is included in all orders, too!
7. Under Armour & Nike
You know the saying: “Look good, feel good”. Well, apply it to your workouts! With military discounts on a wide selection of Under Armour and Nike products (both online and in-store), you can make sure you’re getting fit in style throughout 2019. Plus, having a stylish workout wardrobe does make it easier to exercise.
