Yes, this headline caught our attention, too, so we had to investigate. Kevin Hanrahan served in the Army for twenty years and uses his experiences in the Service to inform his upcoming novel, “Paws on the Ground” — about U.S. Soldiers and the dogs that protect them in combat.
One of the main characters in his novel is a butt-kicking female Soldier on patrol with combat units. Although women aren’t officially assigned to combat units, they make up nearly 20% of the Armed Services, engage the enemy on a daily basis and fight alongside historically all-male combat units all the time.
Nevertheless, Hanrahan received a barrage of criticism for supporting the female Soldier.
