So, your back-to-schoolers are all stocked up on fresh school supplies and you’ve made the obligatory trip(s) to the mall for the hippest new styles. Now that you’ve done your part to help them out with the academic and social prep, it’s time to think about their nutrition.
After the extra special first-day breakfast of pancakes, bacon and eggs, your family will probably fall into the same old waffles of cereal routine. Why not take those simple ideas and jazz them up a bit? Keep each morning exciting with a small twist on the simple classics.
Chocolate Almond Banana Smoothie
- 1 glass chocolate almond milk
- 1/4 cup whole grain oats
- Banana, sliced and frozen
Blend and enjoy!
On-the-Go Multi-Grain Waffles
- Frozen whole grain waffles
- Peanut butter or almond butter
- Dried fruit
Toast your waffles, add your chosen spread(s) and dried fruit.
Cereal Yogurt Breakfast Bowl
- Oat bran flakes
- Granola
- Vanilla yogurt
- Fresh fruit of your choice
Combine ingredients and enjoy!
You can use this same advice for school lunches. You don’t have to be an artist or a chef to give your kids fun, healthy lunches. Small changes go a long way. After all, variety is the spice of life!
