People.com has put together a fun list of 38 spring/summer 2012 trends worth trying. Here are our top five:
1. Dress Shorts
Give your going-out mini the night off and slip on a fancy metallic pair with a full-coverage top (like Mila Kunis’s 3.1 Phillip Lim blouse and blazer) and leg-lengthening heels for a look that will highlight your stems just as well, if not better.
2. Mustard Yellow
Mellow it is not, but the bright shade is less intimidating to wear than you think. Whether sporting from head-to-toe like Emily Blunt (in Elie Saab) or adding just a dash (à la her belt and sandals), the rich hue pairs well with primary colors, like the actress’s red lips and nails.
3. Military Jacket
This perennial wardrobe staple is suddenly very versatile – with jeans and a tee, it’s cool and casual; with a mini, à la Kate Bosworth in a Vanessa Bruno dress, it’s boho-sexy.
4. Summer Scarves
What’s the point of having stylish neckwear if it’s only going to hide under a winter coat? Now that it’s warm out, this lightweight, pretty piece (like Rosario Dawson’s) can actually be seen – and admired!
5. Hint of Neon
Day-Glo brights can be office appropriate in small doses. Dip a toe in the bold trend with little touches of the superbright shades – Heidi Klum does it with a classic top-handle satchel – but it works equally well on shoes or a bangle.
