Operation Turbo began with a simple mission: to provide notes of gratitude to 350 servicemembers aboard the USS Stout in 2010. Since then, the now-registered nonprofit has grown tremendously. Just last year, Operation Turbo donors and volunteers sent 1,758 “boxes of home” to deployed U.S. military members around the world, with a focus on those that might not otherwise receive mail.

What they send in the “boxes of home” breaks down into three categories: protein, such as trail mix and beef jerky; personal care items, with different products for men and women; and treats such as fruit leather and brownie brittle.

Dyan Zurick Smith, founder of the nonprofit, shared that it costs about $60 to fill and send a box to a deserving servicemember.

How You Can Help Send “Boxes of Home” to Deployed U.S. Military

If you’d like to help Operation Turbo send care packages to servicemembers in need, there are a few different ways you can help:

  • Recurring Monthly Sponsorship: Subscribe to send one box per month ($60/mo), six boxes per year ($30/mo), four boxes per year ($15/mo), or two boxes per year ($10/mo)
  • One-Time Donation: Contribute via PayPal, credit card, debit card, or by mailing a check to: OPERATION TURBO, P.O. Box 41431, Arlington, VA 22204
  • Through AmazonSmile: When you shop at smile.amazon.com and select Operation Turbo as your chosen charity, Amazon donates a portion of the price of your eligible purchases.
  • Place an Order from Their Amazon Wish List:  Operation Turbo helps stock their “boxes of home” with all the essentials when you shop their Amazon Wish List. Items start at just $2.49.

Know someone who’s deployed? You can also give a donation to Operation Turbo as a gift. When you make your donation, just be sure to include the name and address of the person you wish to honor and Operation Turbo will send them a personal note!
