Give an Hour™ is a nonprofit organization that provides complimentary and confidential mental health counseling to returning troops and their loved ones. The organization is constantly working to develop a national network of volunteers who are capable of responding to both acute and chronic conditions that arise. If 10% of the licensed mental health professionals in the U.S. join the efforts of Give an Hour, there is the potential to save the Military and taxpayers over $4 million each week.
The organization provides counseling to individuals, couples, families, children and adolescents who are looking for treatment for anxiety, depression, substance abuse, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), sexual health and intimacy concerns, loss and grieving. The organization aims to help U.S. troops and their families affected by Military conflicts abroad, and individuals who receive services are then given the opportunity to give an hour back within their own communities.
While Military leaders are attempting to address the psychological needs of the troops through a variety of programs within the Military culture, the goal of Give an Hour is to supplement this support by providing easy access to skilled professionals for everyone affected by conflicts overseas in a confidential manner.
