By: Matt Liebl Game Zone   Disney Interactive today unveiled its new ambitious gaming initiative known as Disney Infinity. As many previously speculated, the game builds upon the success of Activision’s Skylanders franchise. In similar fashion, Disney Infinity integrates collectible character figures from some of Disney and Pixar’s most beloved films and bring them to life in a digital world filled with adventure and creativity. Players are limited only by their own imagination as they are free to create stories and experiences in a virtual “Toy Box.” Characters from the various Disney/Pixar films can work together in a story-driven experience referred to as a “Play Set.” In these Play Sets, you will solve puzzles, battle enemies, and explore iconic locations from famous Disney properties. Along the way, you will collect unique characters, vehicles, and gadgets from each world and save them to a virtual “Toy Box.” Here’s where the creativity really kicks in. Upon accessing this Toy Box, you can build and customize your own unique virtual world, combining your favorite characters, vehicles, settings, and accessories you’ve already collected. Then, you can share this unique adventure with friends and players around the world. At launch, Disney Infinity will ship with three figurines and their associated worlds/playsets: Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean), Sully (Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University), and Mr. Incredible (The Incredibles). Each playset tells its own individual story and features gameplay uniquely inspired by that film. “Disney Infinity introduces a new way to interact with the best of Disney on one game platform, both now and in the future,” said John Pleasants, co-president, Disney Interactive. “With this innovative approach to gaming, Disney Infinity will bring to life new characters, stories and environments from The Walt Disney Company over time in a way that will delight fans and gamers alike.” Avalanche Software — the developer of Disney Infinity — General Manager John Blackburn added: “Disney Infinity combines prominent Disney and Pixar characters and scenarios in a way that mimics how kids play in real life. With our platform’s unique gameplay mechanics and innovative approach to user generated content within the “Toy Box” mode, Disney Infinity will spark imaginations and provide endless hours of fun and creativity.” Disney Infinity is set to release in June 2013 for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, Wii, 3DS, and PC, as well as an accompanying mobile experience.
