It’s flu season again. Greaaat…

Many drug stores and employers will give flu shots away for free. However, not everyone is eager to run out and get pricked.  If you or someone in your family isn’t a fan of needles, this year there’s a nasal spray flu vaccine that’s said to be just as effective as the flu shot. It’s approved for people 2-49 years of age, according to the CDC.

Be aware that the flu vaccine isn’t a guarantee that you won’t contract the flu. It just improves your chances. Whether or not you decide to get a flu shot this year, you and your loved ones should take the following precautions to be sure you stay healthy and happy this season.

Disinfect

Make sure to get plenty of disinfecting wipes for this time of year. Clean off surfaces that are commonly touched like countertops, door knobs, cell phones and re-usable water bottles. If you have little ones, be sure to disinfect lunch boxes, books and tablets as well.

This applies to personal hygiene too. Wash those hands! Yep, here’s just another constant reminder. You can’t do it enough. Make sure those kiddos also know it’s important to wash their hands multiple times a day to keep the germs away.

Keep your germs to yourself

Here’s just a friendly reminder to cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing. Be considerate to help those around you from getting sick.

Keep your hands away from your face

With the exception of covering your nose and mouth for a sneeze or cough, try to keep your hands away from your face. It’s easy to introduce germs into your system when touching the areas of your face around your eyes, nose and mouth.

Embrace healthy habits

Drink lots of water, exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep.  These three activities go a long way. We all hear this advice over and over, but not getting enough of these things in our lives can weaken the immune system.
