The Navy SEALs have been receiving quite a bit of notoriety in recent months. Osama Bin Laden’s demise at the hands of Navy SEALs is chronicled in Mark Owen’s “No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission that Killed Osama Bin Laden.” SEALs have also been covered by the media regarding multiple rescue missions, including that of cargo ship captain Richard Phillips, from Somali pirates. The 2012 film, “Act of Valor” was cast with real SEALs, working around deployment schedules in order to cast real soldiers, rather than actors. Using live ammunition and real training exercises, the SEALs had a great deal of input in order to make this project look extremely realistic. Former SEAL, Rorke Denver expresses his views and experiences of the secret unit lifestyle in his new book “Damn Few: Making the Modern SEAL Warrior.”
