Since September 11, 2001, more than 5,000 children have lost a parent or loved one who served in the U.S. Military. You often hear about support for the spouse of a fallen service member, but there just aren’t as many supportive resources out there for children of those heroes. Camp Hometown Heroes is a free, weeklong overnight summer camp for the children and siblings (aged 7-17) of fallen U.S. service members. During their time at camp, the children have the opportunity to be around others who understand what they’re going through and can openly discuss their feelings and experiences. Pediatric grief specialists join the campers to take part in art and music therapy programs and optional discussion groups. This documentary will take you through the experiences of the campers before attending, during their time at the camp, and the fun, friendship and healing that they take away.
