The fine folks at Southern New Hampshire University were kind enough to bring this inspiring video to our attention. The heartwarming video presents a great resource to Military family members who are looking to go back to school to further their skills and education.
Here’s a little background
During the month of May, Southern New Hampshire University had the privilege of working with 4 Military families around the world to create surprise graduation experiences for their loved ones who couldn’t make it to #SNHU2014 Commencement in New Hampshire.
This video captures some of the special moments in which SNHU staff were able to assist families in recognizing graduates in a highly unexpected way.
SNHU facilitated surprise diploma deliveries to a U.S. Marine Corps spouse at a party she believed to be in honor of her husband’s promotion to Lt. Colonel, to an Army veteran at his office on Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg) in North Carolina, to an active duty sailor on base in Singapore, and to a U.S. Marine Corps veteran’s wife, now living in San Diego, California.
Courtney Caricato earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from SNHU. Her husband, Lt. Colonel Edward Caricato wrote to SNHU, telling the university that his wife had supported him through every move, deployment and promotion. Now he wanted to celebrate her success in completing her degree and let the world know how proud he is of her. She dearly wanted to attend the commencement ceremony in New Hampshire, but wasn’t able to due to Ed’s Military commitments. Ed and Courtney held a “wetting down” party – a Marine Corps tradition – in celebration of his recent promotion. What Courtney didn’t know was that Ed was really planning this as a surprise graduation party for her.
Renee Miles received her Bachelor of Science in Business Studies with a concentration in Marketing from SNHU. For 20 years, Renee has supported her husband Tom’s Military career through two deployments to Iraq and more, and only recently went back to school for her own advancement. When her husband – her biggest supporter – retired in January, the family moved to California, far from the stage where she envisioned herself walking across to receive her diploma in May. Her academic advisor said Renee was heartbroken that she couldn’t attend #SNHU2014 Commencement. In appreciation of the service this family has given to our country, both home and abroad, SNHU travelled to Oceanside, California and created a surprise graduation celebration event at the Miles’ home with her husband’s help.
