The postcard says: I have lived in San Francisco since I was young. I am illegal. I am not wanted here. I don’t belong anywhere. This summer I plan to jump off the Golden Gate. This group is for him/her and anyone else who feels alone. Kristin Brooks Hope Center/National Hopeline Network 1-800-SUICIDE held an awareness event September 22, 2010 in San Francisco near Golden Gate Bridge encouraging people to learn warning signs of a potential suicide and asking them not to jump if they are in crisis. The event was covered by ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX News as State Assembly Person Tom Ammiano presented the Proclamation declaring September 22nd “Please Don’t Jump Day” to the Hopeline. Blue October band performed at the “Please Don’t Jump” Event. Blue October joins Journey and Avenged Sevenfold, as well as more than 100 other well-known bands who have performed benefit concerts for the Kristin Brooks Hope Center in its rich 12 year history.
