The film follows the events leading up to a Marine platoon’s deployment, the test of patience and resourcefulness while in Afghanistan and the results of their efforts. These Marines had to make the most out of their situation, dealing with local populations, Taliban strategy and emotions, all of which taking place in foreign territory without a clear path to take. Afghanistan: The Surge is a new and different film interpretation because the mission at hand didn’t turn out as planned. The frustration, determination, patience and wisdom that the Marines portrayed in their situation is captured so honestly in this documentary presentation, directed by Robert Hodierne. Take a walk in their shoes to see what this platoon felt and saw during their 7-month deployment in rural Afghanistan during President Obama’s Surge campaign. What are your thoughts on these Marines’ experiences?
