October is a month that really stirs up memories from the start of my marriage. Back when we were newlyweds, still in college, and could live life on a whim, October was the time when we could take a pause. We got into the fall groove, and started our plans for the holiday season. No major travel was required because we were going to do that for the holidays. Instead, we  focused on the events around us. Leaning into local adventures helped us save money and explore all offerings near us.

October has many events to help us explore the hidden gems where we live. Following, I’ve listed fall bucket lists for military families that will help you create your own bucket list of fun, local fall excursions.

Normally, we all refocus our lives at New Year’s, but for me, fall has always been a restart season, too. It’s when school schedules take shape, fiscal year goals get set, and the crisp, cool air opens up a path to creating a bucket list that includes more than just pumpkin patches and festivals.

I always start with an online search. Pinterest and Facebook are great databases to search for fall events in our area. Local writers and bloggers also share their lists, which we can take advantage of to build our own bucket lists.

Creating Your Local Fall Bucket List

Create your fall bucket list by searching your local and neighborhood groups on Facebook. Use the search term “top fall events in [your area]”  on Pinterest or Google.

You don’t have to make big plans. Even simple activities such as hiking through your local state park in these cooler temperatures will help reset your mood.

Throughout our military life, we have lived in big cities, small towns, and desert communities. . Each one has provided its own unique experiences all year round. Bloom where you are planted is an active experience. Maybe fall looks a bit different where you live. Even if you do not have local pumpkin-filled fields, or fresh cider to sip, you do have local treasures to uncover. Fall can be the season for new starts. Soak in the change of season and enjoy the fresh, fall air!
