It might feel like we’re barely out of the summer sun, but the hustle and bustle of the holidays are right around the corner. Holidays can be a stressful time full of logistical nightmares and neverending tasks to cross off the to-do list. With gifts to buy and parties to attend, planning is vital. For MilFams with servicemembers spread across the globe during the holiday season, a little extra planning is necessary.

To help you get a jump on getting your gifts and well wishes out, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has released its schedule for 2019 holiday shipping. This way, you can make sure that any holiday presents or care packages get to where they need to be and get there on time.

If you plan on shipping anything to military bases outside of the United States, you’ll need to get those packages in well in advance. The USPS suggests December 7 for most regions outside the U.S. Getting packages to Africa and Central & South America takes a little bit more time. You should have those stamped and ready to go by November 30. Of course, you can procrastinate a bit on those dates, but you’ll end up paying extra to get your goods there on time. Your absolute final cutoff, though, is December 19.

For domestic military mail deliveries, the deadlines are actually a bit earlier. Check on the USPS’s official site to determine your destination and the best deadline. For simple USPS ground delivery, you’ll need to get it in early. Like November 6th early. Of course, you can wait on these deadlines, too, but you’ll also end up paying a premium. Most Priority Mail Express Military® Service deadlines are December 18. That’s your final chance.

Of course, knowing your deadlines is really only half of the battle. You need to make sure you’re sending your servicemember something on time, but it also needs to be great.
