Updated March 25, 2022

The hope of warmer weather is just under a month away, and when winter officially becomes spring on March 20th, families around the country will begin thinking about spring cleaning.

Out with the old, the excess, and the dusty.  Come out of hibernation and throw open those doors and windows. Let some fresh March air in before the allergy-causing particulate takes over those fantastic springtime temperatures.

Here are a few easy spring cleaning tips that will freshen up your home, and help you stay healthy all year long:

Spring Refresh #1: Replace Your Pillows

Pillows become pretty gross after a while. Even if you’re washing your pillow covers regularly, pillows slowly collect dust, pollen and mold, and can even grow bacteria.

Experts recommend you replace old pillows every 3 years or so to reduce your seasonal allergies and maintain your overall respiratory health year-round.

Spring Refresh #2: Refresh Your Decor

Speaking of new pillows, making simple and inexpensive changes to your home décor will completely transform the space and make it feel fresh for spring.

You can also prepare to change up your decorations even more often if you buy accent pillow covers and pillow form inserts separately. That way, you can rotate accent pillow cases, constantly keeping your home seasonally appropriate and festive!

Also remember, a fresh coat of paint on the walls goes a long way for a relatively low cost!

Spring Refresh #3: Get Out and About

Sure, it doesn’t sound like it relates to organizing and cleaning your house, but this spring cleaning tip is good for your body and soul. When you’re in great mental and physical health, you’ll find it easier to get to those projects you’ve been wanting to take on around the house all winter!

Check out some of the local farmer’s markets or co-ops for fresh fruits and veggies. Pick up some flowers to brighten up your kitchen table while you’re there.

Take a walk to soak up some of that sunny springtime vitamin D now that the heat from the sun is starting to come out of hiding.

Like gardening? Now’s your chance to plant those spring vegetables like kale, broccoli, spinach, carrots, cauliflower and potatoes. These veggies can handle the cool weather that will likely linger into late March and will save you the sunburn of planting and gardening into the summer months.

Spring Refresh #4: Take Care of the Nitty Gritty

It’s probably the least enjoyable part of cleaning, but these are a few projects that will make your home come back to life, giving it a serious face lift.

Tiles

Clean that grout in the kitchen and bathroom tiles. Take some peroxide to any stains hiding between the tiles to whiten them and remove any mold, mildew and other unwanted bacteria.

Carpet

Rent or buy a carpet cleaning machine that will shampoo and scrub the dirt and dust out of the high-traffic carpeted areas of your home that a vacuum just can’t reach.

Closet

Sort through your closet to remove any items of clothing you haven’t worn in the last year. Odds are, if you haven’t worn it in the past year, you won’t wear it in the next. Make some extra space in your closet just in case you come across a new dress you just can’t live without!
