Reconnecting After a Military Deployment
You never know how your service member will feel after a deployment. Soon after their homecoming, they may feel down or might not seem as enthusiastic as you feel about their return. Then again, your spouse might be able to pick up right where they left off before deploying. You truly never know what the situation will be like when they return home.
If you plan something special for them, allow a week or so for them to adjust to life back home.
Be patient, be positive and be encouraging to each other.
Once you feel that you can plan something fun to celebrate the return of your service member, try arranging very focused activities. One can be family friendly and one can be something special for just the two of you.
This can be something as simple as a backyard campout or something as elaborate as a trip to Disney Land. The point is to create an environment in which your family can spend time with one another and enjoy incredible experiences you’ll all remember for years to come.
Just the two of you
Create a staycation for a budget-friendly opportunity to spend some much needed time together. Go out to dinner and create a cozy movie night in your living room. Make the space welcoming, comfortable and romantic.
You could also take your staycation to the next level and go out for the evening in a nearby town or city. Take in a show and stay at a funky hotel for the evening. Spoil yourselves without crushing your bank account.
If you’ve been saving for something a little more elaborate, kidnap your spouse for a few days and take them on a cruise!
No matter what you do as a couple and as a family, the important thing to remember is to reconnect in a way you’ll all enjoy.
