Heartbreak and tough times come to us all. Thankfully, music can help turn the tide of emotion from loss to acceptance, especially when the words and melody match the mood and depth of despair you’re feeling.

Granted, it’s not a good idea to stay in that place for too long, but sometimes you just need to have a good cry to get it all out of your system.

By now, you’ve likely heard James Arthur’s massive hit, “Say You Won’t Let Go”, which is said to have been streamed over 1 billion times… and has probably been added to every engaged couple’s wedding playlist this year and for the foreseeable future.

But do you know how James got his start?

Believe it or not, he was the X Factor UK’s 2012 winner, under the guidance of one of the shows judges, Nicole Scherzinger. Here is his initial audition on the show. It has been viewed more than 62 million times. That ought to tell you something about the allure of James’ incredible talent.

And here he is below singing his winner’s song, Shontelle’s “Impossible”. His powerful live performance is heart-wrenching and stunning. You can feel the angst, honesty and passion in his delivery.

Crank it up and enjoy the indulgence.

LYRICS:

I remember years ago
Someone told me I should take
Caution when it comes to love
I did, I did

And you were strong and I was not
My illusion, my mistake
I was careless, I forgot
I did

And now when all is done
There is nothing to say
You have gone and so effortlessly
You have won
You can go ahead tell them

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the rooftops
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy
And my heart is broken
All my scars are open

Tell them what I hoped would be
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible

Falling out of love is hard
Falling for betrayal is worst
Broken trust and broken hearts
I know, I know

Thinking all you need is there
Building faith on love and words
Empty promises will wear
I know (I know)

And now when all is gone
There is nothing to say
And if you’re done with embarrassing me
On your own you can go ahead tell them

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the rooftops
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy
And my heart is broken
All my scars are open

Tell them what I hoped would be
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible…

I remember years ago
Someone told me I should take
Caution when it comes to love
I did

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the rooftops
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy
And my heart is broken

Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible…
