What if today was your last day?  What would you do differently?

Who would you call?

What would you eat?

What would you wear?

How would you choose to spend your last 24 hours?

When you read that first question, I bet a million things ran through your head…most of which were things that were left undone, words unsaid, places unvisited. In fact, most of us have thought about this question from time to time, usually when we’re in the middle of a crisis of sorts. Rarely do we consider something as final or as challenging as this when things are actually going well, right?

Now consider this…how would your life change if you lived every single moment as if it were your last?

Would food taste a little better? Would music sound a little smoother? Would you hug a little tighter…and maybe hang on a little longer?

I ask these questions because this concept of “living life one moment at a time” has become something of an obsession for me. I am finding that the more I study and adapt this way of living into every aspect of my life, things become so much simpler…more pure and enjoyable. My priorities have become crystal clear as have the things in my life that had become time and energy suckers. I am treasuring people more fully…their presence in my life as well as mine in theirs. Hurt feelings or grudges are replaced with forgiveness and healing…I don’t want to leave this world with unfinished business or negative feelings. How important is it to stand your ground and be right if it means losing a friendship or disconnecting with a family member? Perspective…that is exactly what I have gained from this experience. And I love it!

I challenge you to make every phone call when it crosses your mind, tell people you love them even if it feels awkward, send a card just to let someone know you are thinking of them, make a dream sheet and then start checking things off, take time to just sit and talk with someone you love, hold hands, whistle, eat dessert first once in a while…break the rules and then break a few more. Live life fully and completely with love and peace in your heart. Regret nothing, remember everything…live honestly and purely.

Are you living life one moment at a time? If not, are you willing to give it a shot? I would love to continue this conversation and see what each of you think…and also hear how living life one moment at a time is working for you. Please feel free to leave a comment and let’s talk!
